“the rhythm of my neighborhood
grips me fiercely
holds my thoughts without concern
fills me with sounds and smells
fried fish and bbq
car horns and crusted speech
a mumble of slang and curses
we bow to each other to get out of the way
of shots fired
or to point the way
to block parties and the park
the roars here may feel more violent
than wild animals
but it's all in the soundâ€
